SubstraTulum is a Materials and Design Laboratory based in Tulum, Quintana Roo. We transform regional resources —such as sargassum, mineral aggregates, fibers, and biomass— into objects and habitable spaces.

Pattern depends on matter, and matter manifests patterns. This reciprocal relationship guides SubstraTulum's formal research, process documentation, and fabrication.
What we research
We investigate regional resources —sargassum, mineral aggregates, fibers, and biomass— connecting territorial observation, material research, computational design, prototyping, and digital fabrication. Sargassum is an emblematic resource within this platform, not the only material or an automatic answer.

Current stage
SubstraTulum is in the research, prototyping, and validation stage. Formulations, performance, and spatial applications remain under evaluation; no conceptual visualization is presented as a certified product or validated structural solution without documented evidence.
Led by a four-person team, with material research and characterization developed in academic collaboration with the FabLab at Universidad Anáhuac México (Mexico City).
